In July this year, fans will witness a never-seen sight with two different Indian cricket teams playing simultaneously. While the Virat Kohli-led Test side will lock horns with England in the UK, a team of white-ball specialists will meet Sri Lanka in three ODIs and as many T20Is, starting from July 13. Hence, many new faces will be seen in the Sri Lanka tour, and it would be interesting to see how the final squad looks.
Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta also talked about the same in a recent interaction. He was asked to pick India’s T20I playing XI for Sri Lanka series, and the former wicketkeeper indeed named a formidable XI. Dasgupta’s playing XI is a perfect blend of youth and experience, and by no means, his side looked a second-string team. However, the renowned commentator also missed out on few notable names.
Dasgupta picked India’s newly-looking XI during an interaction with ESPNcricinfo. He went with Delhi Capitals’ duo Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw for the opening slot following their sensational show in the now-postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is placed at number three while Suryakumar Yadav follows him. Interestingly, Dasgupta didn’t pick Yadav’s Mumbai Indians teammate Ishan Kishan, who smashed a fiery fifty on his T20I debut earlier this year.
Manish Pandey, Rahul Tewatia included in Deep Dasgupta’s team
Samson is also the wicket-keeper of Deep’s line-up. Next in the line-up is Manish Pandey, who had a mixed season for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021. He did score runs, but his cautious approach didn’t help SRH. However, Pandey is a proven star of this format, and hence, Dasgupta selected him. The all-rounders’ role has been entrusted to Hardik Pandya and Rahul Tewatia. The duo couldn’t impress much in IPL 2021, but Deep expects them to shine in India colours.
The 43-year-old has selected Rahul Chahar ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal as the lead spinner of the team. Chahar bowled some scintillating spells in IPL 2021 and could be on the flight for Sri Lanka. Pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar and T Natarajan occupy the remaining places in the line-up. The trio was part of India’s T20I series against England earlier this year, and Dasgupta has retained them.
Deep Dasgupta’s India T20I playing XI for Sri Lanka series: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Rahul Tewatia, Rahul Chahar, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan
