The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals have seen a massive turn around in their fortunes after changing their name from Delhi Daredevils under new management. The team finished in the top four at no.3 in the points table in the IPL 2019. Under the captaincy of the young Shreyas Iyer, the team has seen a massive turnaround.
The Capitals will be looking forward to doing better than their previous outing when the team takes to the ground in the IPL 2020. But before that, it is time to get ready for the upcoming auction on December 19, 2019, and to have some shuffle in the team officials as well, as it was evident by Praveen Amre parting ways with Capitals’ support staff after five years of being a talent scout.
Vijay Dahiya named the new talent scout by Delhi Capitals
Praveen Amre had been associated with the Pune Warriors team for three years before joining the Delhi franchise and he confirmed that the parting of ways was on amicable terms. “We have parted on really amicable terms. I feel that my family needs my time as I have been on the road for the last eight years (three with Pune Warriors). I am happy that I have done my part as players like Shreyas (Iyer), Prithvi (Shaw) are now established stars,” Amre told sportstar.com.
He has been replaced by former India wicketkeeper Vijay Dahiya, who played domestic cricket for the Delhi team itself. He was previously the assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders during their title wins in 2012 and 2014. He has a vast knowledge of talents in domestic cricket and has a keen eye for homegrown talents.
Meanwhile, Amre was also credited for bringing in Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw into the team and turning them into a finished product. “When Shreyas and Prithvi came into the DC set up, they needed a bit of hand-holding and guidance which I believe I provided. Now they are matured enough and I don’t think I need to be constantly around them,” he added.
He was also queried whether he will apply for the position for a national selector given that the tenure of the current panel came to an end. “I will not apply unless I am asked to. I have thrice applied for batting coach’s position and have understood that there is no point applying if the BCCI doesn’t approach you. I have learned from my experiences that there’s no point in applying unless BCCI wants,” Amre added.
