The Indian Premier League (IPL) and controversy can never be separated. For all the massive popularity that the IPL enjoys across the world, with it being the most attractive cricket league ever, the tournament has had its fair share of controversies too.
In 2013, the spot-fixing controversy rocked the IPL, where, Ajit Chandila, S. Sreesanth, and Ankeet Chavan of the Rajasthan Royals side were arrested. Subsequently, the Rajasthan Royals and the Chennai Super Kings sides were banned for a couple of years as well. Now, there is another issue that has cropped up, where it has been found that a Delhi nurse allegedly approached an Indian player, seeking insider information during the 13th edition of the IPL.
However, Ajit Singh, chief of the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption wing has declared that the concerned player had reported the approach during the IPL itself, and there were no further leads found. He also revealed that the person who approached the player in the middle of the tournament had acted in an extremely unprofessional manner.
“The player had reported to us during the IPL. We investigated it, and the matter is closed now. The person who approached the player was unprofessional (did not have connections with any betting syndicate), and there was no further lead found,” he said in a chat with The Indian Express.

He also added that a thorough investigation has taken place regarding the matter, and the Delhi nurse knew the player. She was also called for questioning, but no concrete evidence was found.
“We investigated thoroughly. The accused knew the player. When the player reported the matter, we took all the details. Later, we called her for questioning too, but nothing was found from her. The matter is closed,” he said.
A BCCI source added that the player did not even know the woman or where she worked. And, the woman had approached the player as she wanted information about the playing XI so that she can place bets.
“He said he did not know where she lived or worked. During an online conversation, she told the player that she wanted to bet, and for that, she wanted to know about the match and playing XI.”
The 13th edition of the IPL took place between 19th September and 10th November in the UAE last year, with the Mumbai Indians winning the IPL Trophy for a record fifth time. Also, for the first time, the Chennai Super Kings side failed to qualify for the playoffs in the 2020 IPL season.
