Australia’s women cricketers Delissa Kimmince and Laura Harris are the latest same-sex couple in cricket when the right-handed batswoman proposed to her partner after winning the Women’s Big Bash League in 2018/19. Both Harris and Kimmince played for Brisbane Heat team, which won the title and Harris had hit the winning runs.
30-year-old Kimmince had made her debut for Australia in 2008 against New Zealand. But in 2009, she took a long break from cricket. She returned to play in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2014 and has been a regular feature in the Australia team since. She was also named the captain of Queensland Fire and was the inaugural captain of the Brisbane Heat WBBL franchise.

Meanwhile, Laura Harris has played for Brisbane Heat for three seasons now and made her domestic cricket debut for Queensland in the 2016–17 Women’s National Cricket League. She also has an elder sister Grace, who also plays for the Brisbane Heat WBBL team with Laura. She hit the winning four for her team in the latest edition of the tournament and won the title, defeating Sydney Sixers.
The Brisbane Heat congratulated the couple on Twitter and posted, “If we win the final, I’ll buy the ring”… DK finally came through with her promise! Congrats Delissa and Laura! ♥️ #BringTheHeat #WBBL05”

Kimmince and Harris are the newest entry into the women’s cricket’s same-sex couple club. This club includes New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu and Amy Satterthwaite, Alex Blackwell and Lynsey Askew from Australia, Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp from South Africa, Megan Schutt and Jess Holyoake again from Australia and Jess Jonassen and Sarah Wearn.
Kimmince has had a better Australian cricket career, as she was awarded the national contract by Cricket Australia for the last few years and played in the 2018 Women’s World T20 in West Indies. She was part of the Southern Stars team which took on England in the Women’s Ashes and in the second WODI of the Ashes, picked her maiden five-wicket haul in the format.
