Virender Sehwag, the former Indian opener is known for his upfront nature and he never shies over making statements without any hesitation. Sometime’s the Indian veteran gets trolled for his opinions by the fans but he never hides his thoughts. Recently, he once again has hit the spotlight by comparing baby diapers with the Test format.
International Cricket Council (ICC) is under the process to make Test look more interesting as well as exciting for the fans. Hence, they have come up with a proposal to reduce the five-day game to four a day format. Such an idea received mixed reactions from the cricketing fraternity. Skipper Virat Kohli and Team India head coach Ravi Shastri were not impressed over the same.
Virender Sehwag opines on four-day Test proposal
Now, the flamboyant former opener has come up with a strong opinion regarding four-day Tests. As per him, he had captained India in T20Is and he is proud of that. He was also a part of the national squad that lifted World Cup in 2007 and 2011. However, five-day cricket is no less than a romance where players get full liberty to express themselves with their best skills in an ample amount of time, according to Sehwag.
He also recited the fact that innovations are always welcomed like players’ names on jerseys and pink-ball Tests. But the 41-year-old stated that diaper and five-day Test should be changed only when finished and there is still a lot left in it. It is a 143-year-old fit person according to Virender Sehwag.
“I have always supported the change. I captained India in its first T20 game and I am proud of that. I was also part of India’s World T20 winning team in 2007. But five-day Test cricket is romance.
“Innovations like names in jerseys and pink ball Tests are fine. But diaper and five-day Tests should only be changed when its finished, when it can’t be used anymore. Five-day Test is not finished. Test cricket is a 143-year old fit person. It has a soul. ‘Char din ki sirf chandni hi hoti hai….Test cricket nahin’ (four days of moon is fine, not Test cricket),” Virender Sehwag said at the BCCI Awards as quoted by Hindustan Times.
