Pakistan team is all set to embark on their tour to England on June 28 with the PCB waiting for the COVID-19 test results of the players who were tested in the first phase. 10 players including Mohammad Hafeez won’t be with the touring party for now as they have been told to self-isolate at home. However, it has all been chaos for the PCB over the last few days with Hafeez deciding to undergo Coronavirus test in private capacity.
He took the step after being tested positive for the virus earlier this week but then when he took the second test, it came out negative. The veteran cricketer also tweeted the report of the test on his official Twitter handle to leave the PCB fuming. Following this, the board requested the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital to test Hafeez’s sample again and to everyone’s surprise, he has been tested positive again.
Moreover, the rest of the players have also been retested and their results are awaited soon as well. “This is a very intriguing situation for the board. It will be interesting to see what is the result of the second test taken today of the 10 players, who tested positive in the first test earlier this week will come,” the source close to the developments was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
Mohammad Hafeez likely to face disciplinary action
The PCB CEO Wasim Khan had made Mohammad Hafeez clear of the board’s disappointment over the phone call. Wasim told the cricketer he should have talked to the board authorities first before taking such a step and also stated that the 39-year-old has breached the testing protocols. The PCB is officially going to announce the test results of 10 players and an official on Saturday.
And if Hafeez’s report turns out to be positive, he may face the disciplinary action. “I spoke to Mohammad Hafeez today and I made it clear to him our disappointment at the way he had handled this entire affair. As an individual, he has a right to take a private test but he should have spoken to us first because he created a problem for us,” Wasim Khan said.
