Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are two of the greatest cricketers India have ever produced. Apart from scoring tons and tons of runs, they have flourished as a leader as well, guiding India to victory on several instances. However, when it comes to studies, the duo wasn’t top notch. Dhoni secured 66 per cent in 10th standard even as he got 56 per cent in 12th standard.
When he was in the 12th standard, he used to travel out of Ranchi to play cricket matches. His journey was also shown in the movie MS Dhoni-The Untold Story, released back in September 2016. Dhoni made the revelations when he travelled to Virender Sehwag’s school in Delhi.
As far as the now 31-year-old Virat is concerned, he wasn’t studious either. The Delhi-born found mathematics a nightmare and quite often, he couldn’t even cross the single digits out of 100.
I’m telling you, have never worked that hard in cricket: Virat Kohli
“So, in Math, we used to have exams and the maximum marks we could get in 100, right. I used to get 3, I was that good. And I did not understand, why someone would even want to learn math. I could not understand the complications behind it, I have never used those formulas in life,” Virat had said in 2019 during a chat show ‘In Depth with Graham Bensinger’.
He had said that for him, working hard in mathematics was much harder than playing cricket. “I just wanted to get through my 10th Grade exam because they used to happen at a state level and after that you could choose if you wanted to continue with math or not. I’m telling you, have never worked that hard in cricket the way I did to pass in that exam,” he added.
For a youngster, studying and playing cricket is never an easy task. Sachin Tendulkar couldn’t pass his tenth standard and didn’t even retake the exam. By that time, he had also donned the national jersey. However, the likes of Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman and Javagal Srinath had decent academic records and they piled on records in cricket as well.
