Ramiz Raja recently expressed his views on two of Pakistan’s most senior players, Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik and adviced them to retire gracefully. The latter then came up with a hilarious response to him asking Ramiz to join them in retiring in 2022. It was a clear ‘no’ from the Malik to the cricketer turned commentator’s suggestion and the banter continues now with Ramiz responding to the cheeky dig.
Malik and Hafeez both didn’t perform to the expectations in the World Cup last year. While the former retired from the ODIs post the tournament, Hafeez wished to continue to play for Pakistan. However, both of them were left out of the side even in the T20Is after the coach and selector Misbah-ul-Haq took over. But with the team not performing to the expectations at home against Sri Lanka and away against Australia, the duo was called back.
And both of them performed decently in the home series against Bangladesh proving their mettle showing their immense experience in tough situations. Earlier this week, Ramiz Raja lauded them for serving Pakistan for so many years but felt that they should retire gracefully now which will also allow the selectors to try out a good pool of players in the team.
“They should leave international cricket with respect and gracefully. I think if they retire now it will help Pakistan cricket. We have a good pool of players and we must move ahead,” he was quoted as saying by the Times of India. But Malik, 38, took a cheeky indirect dig at him stating that Ramiz should also retire with them.

‘Retire for speaking my mind?’ – Ramiz Raja asks Shoaib Malik
Ramiz Raja, however, didn’t seem to be pleased at all with Shoaib Malik’s response. The 57-year-old claimed that he speaks his mind always and always wants Pakistan cricket to be back on top. Moreover, he also cleared that he won’t be retiring from commentary and will keep analysing the game. In a series of tweets, Ramiz Raja also slammed Malik stating that he doesn’t need a tutorial from him as he retired from the game as Pakistan captain.
“@realshoaibmalik @MHafeez22 1-retire gracefully .. from what ?.. speaking my mind on pak cricket? Sticking my neck out for pak cricket ? Wanting pak cricket back at top ? No chance .. won’t be gracefully retiring from that ever Malik Sahib! as for ur post retirement plans would be tough to start commentating in 2022 as that would make you my age almost. And talking of careers , don’t need a tutorial from u of all the ppl as history, which is a great teacher, would tell u that I retired while I was Captain of Pak team.”
