On 5th August 2004, the game of cricket underwent a major change. The New Zealand and England women’s teams played out the first-ever international T20 match. More than 16 years later, the T20 format is ruling the cricketing world. Several T20 leagues have sprung up across the world, with the Indian Premier League (IPL), achieving unprecedented success. T20 is the ‘in’ thing in the modern era, with the fans flocking to the stadiums to watch their favorite stars in action.
Now, cricket is all set to undergo another major change with the T10 format making waves around the world. At least, that is what West Indian great Dwayne Bravo feels as reported by the Times of India(TOI). Bravo said that T10 is a very exciting competition and will have a similar impact T20 cricket had when it started a decade and a half ago.
“T10 is an exciting tournament and it’s a competition that is just the way T20 started a few years ago – being the hottest thing in the market, and attracting so many people around the world,” said Bravo.
Bravo feels that T10 can help players prolong their careers
Bravo also added that T10 can help the players prolong their careers and added that it is not a tournament that favors the bowlers. Bravo also said that the T10 league is one where the best players in the business face off against each other. The 37-year-old veteran further opined that the T10 format provides him a challenge to complete at the highest level.
“I think T10 definitely can do something similar. I believe it can also help players prolong their careers, and as a bowler, I use it as an opportunity to challenge myself because it’s not a bowler-friendly tournament, and you come up against the best players in the world. So I use it as an opportunity to work on my skills and challenge and see how I can still compete at the highest level,” said the West Indian all-rounder.
Bravo, who has switched loyalties from the Maratha Arabians to the Delhi Bulls this edition, termed the T10 league as a ‘very hard’ tournament to win. He was also delighted that the coach Andy Flower will be joining him as well.
“I must be very honest that it’s a really hard tournament to win. What will work for us is the fact that both the coach (Andy Flower) and myself will be on the same page,” said Bravo.
The West Indian also added that the process that was followed while Flower and Bravo were at the Arabians’ side will be replicated when they turn out for the Bulls as well.
The first match of the Abu Dhabi T10 League will take place on 28th January 2021, between the Maratha Arabians and the Northern Warriors.
