Eoin Morgan, the England captain, has said that he’s ready for the national team fielding two sides on the same date at different venues. The coronavirus outbreak has also led to postponement and cancellation of quite a few series and English cricket hasn’t been any different. Recently, the Three Lions’ Test series in Sri Lanka was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the novel virus around, it could well lead to a compressed home season in England. Their international home campaign was scheduled to start on June 4 with the series against the West Indies. However, the current situation has forced the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to postpone all domestic cricket until May 28.

In the rather tough times, Morgan, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, has talked about co-operating in the critical situation. “I see every option being viable during this extraordinary time,” Morgan was quoted as saying during a conference call on Wednesday, April 1.

“Certainly, I’ve never experienced anything like it and I don’t think anyone else has. I think the serious nature of the situation economically and financially for the game is something that we have never come across,” he mentioned

The England Test team, led by Joe Root, could either face the Caribbean team or Pakistan, who are both due to arrive for a three-match series. On the other hand, Morgan’s white-ball team could lock horns with Australia in the ODIs and T20Is.

Of late, Tom Harrison, the ECB Chief Executive, announced a $76 million aid package. He said that the touring sides were “very flexible, innovative and massively understanding”. Morgan also wants his team to take a similar approach.

“Certainly, from a players’ point of view, we want to do as much as we can to try and keep things going. If there’s an opportunity to play as much cricket as we can, I’d like to think every player would be behind it. I certainly am.”

“But obviously times are still uncertain at the moment… Realistically we can’t think about playing, when our first game will be, or how many we will play until the situation is downgraded from a pandemic,” he added.

Morgan recently became a father after his wife Tara Ridgway gave birth to a son and named him Leo. The 33-year-old stated that the couple has been preoccupied while looking after the baby.
