England and Pakistan are currently involved in the ongoing third and final Test of the series. The hosts are bossing the game and have enforced the follow-on on Pakistan despite Azhar Ali scoring an unbeaten 141. The visitors are currently battling it out in the second innings and will be hoping to put up a fight with series already gone. The first hour of the day witnessed the openers Shan Masood and Abid Ali fighting it out in Southampton.
They played out around 14 overs after which the umpires called for drinks break. Soon after that, former England cricketer and currently, the part of the team’s support staff, Paul Collingwood was seen donning the whites and running with the drinks which left the viewers perplexed.
The reason for the same has been the injury and player availability issues for the home team. Sam Curran has left the bio-bubble after not being picked for the final Test. He was allowed to join his County team ahead of the game while Ollie Pope sustained a shoulder injury while fielding on the fourth morning.
James Bracey is already in the field to replace Pope while Mark Wood and Jack Leach are the other reserve players on bench. While Collingwood hopefully isn’t required to take the field with two more players still available, he won’t mind even doing it. He has been used as a sub-fielder before during the tour game on England’s 2017-18 tour of Australia. Paul Collingwood also took the field during the team’s white-ball warm-up game earlier in the summer.
Paul Collingwood has been one of the best fielders ever
Paul Collingwood, who was the head coach of England team for Ireland ODIs, was one of the best fielders during his playing days. However, he must be disappointed with the way the players have fielded so far in this Test match. The hosts dropped three catches in quick succession in the final session on Sunday and also shelled one on the fourth morning, all off James Anderson who is sitting at 598 Test wickets.
