Harleen Deol played his first international match in England on Friday during India Women’s opening T20I against England Women at the County Ground in Northampton. She didn’t have a great time with the bat, scoring 17 runs at a strike rate of 70.83 when the visitors were chasing 178 to win. However, the 23-year-old managed to hog the limelight with her stupendous fielding skills.
In the 19th over of England’s innings, she took a stunning catch at the boundary to dismiss Amy Jones, who was batting on 43 with four fours and two sixes. Shikha Pandey bowled a full-length ball outside the off-stump and Jones tried to muscle the ball over long-off for a six. However, the batter couldn’t get the timing and holed out to Harleen, who gave an account of her athleticism.
Harleen Deol shows her brilliance
Harleen caught the ball but realised that the momentum would take her over the boundary. Showing great presence of mind, she threw the ball back in the playing region and then dived full-stretch to complete the catch. After she pulled off the stunner, her teammates came to congratulate her. The dismissal was crucial in the context of the game as Jones could have done a lot of damage.

India went on to lose the game by 18 runs (D/L Method) after rain interrupted their run-chase. Nat Sciver got the Player of the Match award for her half-century and also for getting Smriti Mandhana’s wicket. After the win, Heather Knight, the English skipper, was over the moon.
“We still got a series to win. Really pleased with how things went today. Nat was outstanding in the middle overs and so was Amy Jones. A brilliant partnership and we were clinical with the ball. Very pleasing,” Knight was quoted as saying after the match.
Harmanpreet Kaur, Team India’s captain, was disappointed. However, she lauded the fielders and also had words of praises for Pandey, who picked up three important wickets.
“We were batting according to DLS, unfortunately, we kept losing wickets. We knew there’d be rain after 8:30 PM. We couldn’t make it due to back-to-back wickets. We fielded really well, there’s a lot of improvement in our fielding. Shikha did really well in the bowling department,” Kaur said.
