The final day of the first edition of the European Cricket Leauge (ECL) was a treat to watch. The knockout games – two playoffs, two semis and the finals – were played on this day. It all boiled down to two of the hot favourites in the tournament – V.O.C Rotterdam and S.G Findorff. In the end, it was the team from the Netherlands that managed to clinch the title.
It all started off with the first playoff between Cluj Cricket Club and JCC Brescia. Brescia won this game by 6 wickets courtesy a complete team effort. Then, the other playoff game was a low-scoring one. Muhammad Bhatti, who returned with figures of 3/4 in his two overs won the Dreux Cricket Club the match.
Then, it was the time for the semi-finals. In the first semifinal, V.O.C Rotterdam comfortably chased down a target of 130 set by Catalunya Cricket Club to advance into the final. Both Scott Edwards and Max O’Dowd played great knocks in this match. In the other game, it got quite easy for S.G Findorff as they had to chase only 89 runs.

It was a run-feast in the final. V.O.C Rotterdam batted first in this game and their openers saved their best for this game. They didn’t let a wicket fall during the course of the innings. Scott Edwards registered the second century of the season and also the highest score in the tournament. While he remained unbeaten on 137, O’Dowd mustered 74 runs.
Their efforts helped V.O.C Rotterdam get to a mammoth 222/0 in 10 overs and the winner was decided right at the half-way stage. S.G Findorff scored 121/9 in the chase and lost the game by 101 runs. No other team lost by this huge margin in the tournament.
