The second edition of the Global T20 Canada league is set to kick-off on Thursday at CAA Centre, Brampton, Canada, and the opening match is expected to be an explosive affair. Defending champions Vancouver Nights will take on Toronto Nationals and while Chris Gayle will be representing the former, the latter will see Yuvraj Singh, who retired from international cricket recently.
Both the left-hand batsmen have been star performers for their respective countries and will look forward to prevailing over the other in the T20 league in Canada. Yuvraj, who called it a day during the World Cup, a couple of years after the last playing for India, will look to make a fresh beginning.
The talented southpaw has found himself getting less significance in the Indian Premier League as well and did not get to play many games for Mumbai Indians this year despite hitting a fifty in the first match. Gayle, who will complete 40 this September, was also reportedly snubbed by his old franchise and after a comparatively quieter World Cup, will be back to rule with his willow.
Gayle says he is ready
Gayle took to Twitter to respond to a post by Yuvraj who greeted Toronto and said he was eagerly waiting for the T20 tournament to kick-off and even tagged Gayle. In his tweet, ‘Universe Boss’ Gayle said: “I’m ready”.
Yuvraj, 37, was picked up by the Nationals as a marquee player in the draft of the league. Dubbed as one of the best cricketers produced in the history of limited-over cricket, Yuvraj has played in 231 T20s in which he has scored 4,857 runs and claimed 80 scalps. He is still known for his six sixes in an over in the 2007 World Twenty20 off an over from Stuart Broad besides picking up the man of the series award in the 2011 World Cup.
Gayle has played 384 T20s in which he has scored 12.8k runs and taken 80 wickets.

The second season of the Global T20 Canada is starting a bit late compared to last year because of the ICC World Cup which ended on July 14. A total of 22 matches will be played in the tournament and the final will be held on August 11. Players from all over the world are participating in the tournament with the focus more on players from Canada, United States, United Arab Emirates and other associate nations.
