Fakhar Zaman burst on the scene with a sparkling century versus India in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Last year, he had a stupendous series against Zimbabwe where he became the first Pakistan batsman with a double century in the ODI format. However, apart from that he has been a tad rusty, though he went on to make his Test debut last year against Australia in Abu Dhabi.

In the meantime, Grant Flower, the former batting coach of the Pakistan team, opened up on his experience of working with Fakhar. Flower, also a retired Zimbabwe all-rounder, was clear cut in saying that the southpaw wasn’t an easy man to work with, albeit he termed Zaman as a lovely person, Flower also reckoned that he needs to work hard in order to convert his ‘rawness’.

“I suppose I’d have to go for Fakhar Zaman. I’ve worked quite a lot with him, but he’s got such a different technique to others. He’s quite hard to work with, even though he’s a lovely guy. There’s a lot of rawness about him, but his results have been very inconsistent. But I think he’s good enough to make something of it, but he’s got a lot of work to do,” Flower was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Flower bowed out from his position after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) met on August 2 in Lahore to discuss the team’s rather indifferent performance in the 2019 World Cup. Mickey Arthur and Azhar Mahmood also didn’t get their tenure renewed as the head coach and the bowling coach respectively.

As far as Fakhar Zaman is concerned, he didn’t have a great time in the mega event in England and Wales. The left-hander could only manage 186 runs in eight matches at a dismal average of 23.25 with only a solitary half-century against India at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Fakhar is currently plying his trade for Glamorgan in the T20 Blast and he has failed to live up to the expectations as of now. In seven matches, Zaman has gotten only 99 runs at an average and strike-rate of 16.50 and 93.39 respectively with only a half-century against Gloucestershire.
