The list of cricketers being tested positive for Coronavirus is increasing with every passing day. While it was Shahid Afridi who was contracted with the virus last week, Bangladesh‘s former captain Mashrafe Mortaza has now been tested positive. Earlier, his mother-in-law was also diagnosed with the novel virus.
The cricketer who is also Narail-2 MP was suffering from fever on Thursday after which he gave his samples for testing only to find positive. However, it has been reported that Mortaza’s health is very much fine and is currently being treated at his home in isolation.
The source close to the developments has also informed that his family is absolutely fine. “Mashrafe complained of fever on Thursday night. On Friday his sample for Covid19 test was collected and the result showed positive [today]. He is doing well at the moment and his family is also fine,” he said according to Dhaka Tribune.

Meanwhile, during the lockdown and these tough times, Mashrafe Mortaza has come forward for the poor and needy people. In March, he lent help to as many as 300 families in Narail his birthplace, and the Lohagara upazila. Apart from that, the pacer had donated half of his Bangladesh cricket’s salary to help the nation fight the pandemic.
As far as the outbreak of Coronavirus in Bangladesh is concerned, more than 1 lakh cases are registered with 1425 people losing their lives. Currently, around 64 thousand cases are active with more than 40000 people recovering from the disease as well.
The fans will now be hoping for Mashrafe Mortaza to recover from COVID-19 soon. He last played for Bangladesh in March during the series against Zimbabwe which was also his last series as captain. Since then, there have been a lot talks about his retirement from the game. However, the 36-year-old is yet to hang his boots and wishes to continue playing the sport.
For now though the cricketer’s priority will be to regain full fitness and recover quickly from the virus even as international cricket is set to resume with the series between England and West Indies on July 8.
