Former Mumbai First-Class cricketer Robin Morris has found himself in cold waters again. The former cricketer, who was once a part of the now-defunct Indian Cricket League, has always been in the news for all the wrong reasons rather than his cricketing exploits. From joining the rebel league to getting banned to appearing in controversial ‘expose’ videos, Morris finds a new way every time to keep himself in the news.
And, so, continuing with that trend, Morris finds himself in the headlines after the Mumbai police arrested him for an alleged attempt of kidnapping a loan agent following the latter’s inability to provide the former cricketer with the sanctioned loan attempt. Morris had approached an agent via a mutual friend in order to claim a Rs 3 crore loan. However, after the loan manager wasn’t able to provide the sanctioned amount.
Morris, with the help of his four friends, then proceeded to call him to a restaurant before forcefully taking him to his [Morris] residence. The former cricketer then called the loan agent’s family, who in turn called the police, one of the police officers from the Mumbai suburb of Kurla told the Indian Express.
“Morris wanted a loan of Rs 3 crore [USD 410,000 approx] a few years ago. He got in touch with the complainant [a loan agent] through a mutual friend. The complainant took a commission but failed to provide Rs 3 crore loan sanction to Morris
“Morris along with his four accomplices decided to call him to a restaurant in Kurla and forcefully took him to [Morris’ residence in] Versova”, before calling the loan agent’s family members and demanding the remainder of the commission be returned. “The family instead approached us and we registered a case.” the police officer was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Robin Morris has been in the news for reprehensible reasons in the past too
The former Mumbai cricketer played 42 first-class games and 51 List-A matches in a career that spanned from 1995-2007 before he joined the now-defunct Indian Cricket League. Morris was subsequently banned by the BCCI before he eventually awarded amnesty in 2009.
Last year, Morris was in the news following an Al Jazeera channel’s sting operation where he was filmed alongside former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza as the former spoke to an undercover reporter about how he can help in paving way for spot-fixing to take place in T20 tournaments.
