Indian fast bowlers have emerged as one of the strong points for their side in recent times. In the last couple of years, Team India have got some exceptional bowlers in their ranks like Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ishant Sharma.
All the speedsters have been performing extremely well for their national side. Many cricketing greats hailed them for giving some astonishing performances. Recently, Ian Bishop, the former West Indies legendary cricketer also formed a similar opinion.
In the last couple of years, the Indian pace battery has done tremendously well irrespective of the opponent. Recently, the lethal trio of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Ishant Sharma dismantled South Africa and Bangladesh batting line up with sheer dominance. The performances given by Indian bowlers is one of the main reason behind India going unbeaten this year in the longer format.
Indian fast bowlers impress Ian bishop
The former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop said that he had never expected such a massive improvement in the Indian fast bowling unit. He was surprised to see that their bowlers made West Indies taste their own medicine.
However, all credits should go to the Indian administrators and their bowling coach, Bharat Arun. He also feels that the foundation of Indian fast bowling was laid by players like Kapil Dev and down the line, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Sreesanth.
“I couldn’t have predicted that India’s fast bowlers would come to the Caribbean, for example, and do to us what we did to them so many decades ago! So credit to Bharat Arun, the bowling coach, and the administrators and captains. I couldn’t see this much (improvement), but I thought there was a great deal of promise in having guys who could bowl close to, or over, 90mph.
“Let’s remember that this group of bowlers did not emanate right now. The foundation was laid – if you go back to Kapil [Dev] and down the line, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Sreesanth,” Ian Bishop said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Earlier, this year when India whitewashed West Indies by 2-0. In that series, Indian pacers shared 33 wickets out of the 40 wickets that fell throughout the series.
