Suryakumar Yadav made a stunning start with the bat in international cricket. After failing to get a chance to bat on his debut and then being dropped from the playing eleven for third T20I, he was included in the team for the fourth T20I in Ahmedabad. The right-handed batsman got a chance in the team only because Ishan Kishan suffered a groin injury.
Surya was also promoted in the batting line-up and came out to bat at number three in just the fourth over. The 30-year old made the most of the opportunity and slammed 57 off 31 balls. His innings was laced with six fours and three sixes. His stunning innings, however, ended in a controversial manner after Dawid Malan took a catch to send him back.
On the second ball of the 14th over bowled by Sam Curran, Suryakumar Yadav hit the ball towards fine leg where Malan made a fine effort. The England cricketer came running in and grabbed the ball. The catch was not clear and consequently, the on-field umpires went upstairs after giving the soft signal in the favour of the fielding side.
After multiple checks, the third umpire retained the on-field call although the replays were not conclusive. Surya had no option but to walk off the field. The fans were furious with the call and their reaction on social media platforms made their feeling very clear.
Along with the fans, India skipper Virat Kohli was also unimpressed with the decision and vented out his frustration. It was clear that he wasn’t happy with it and like he always does, expressed himself against the decision.
