Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has pledged to donate Rs 50 lakh more from his MPLAD Fund for the medical equipments needed to treat the Coronavirus patients. Earlier, he had released Rs 50 lakh from MPLAD and had requested the Delhi Government to direct the officers in-charge to share the requirements with his office. This time around too he has done the same and wants the state along with the country to be cleared of the pandemic soon.
He wrote a letter to the Delhi Government and informed them of his donation. Moreover, Gambhir also cleared that none from the state government contacted his office after his previous announcement.
“It is stated by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia that funds are needed to meet the growing demand for medical equipment in several Delhi Government hospitals. In addition to Rs 50 lakh which I pledged two weeks ago, I would further like to pledge Rs 50 lakh from my MP LAD to your kind office with the hope that the said amount would be useful in the procurement of equipment for medical staff and treatment of COVID-19 patients.
“Kindly direct the officers-in-charge to share requirements with my office. During this time of pandemic, the welfare of the citizens of Delhi is of utmost importance,” the letter read according to Outlook.
Gautam Gambhir also donated 2 years’ salary
Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir was also not behind in donating apart from releasing the amount from MPLAD fund. Earlier he announced that he will be donating his 1 month’s salary to the PM CARES Fund. However, on April 2, India’s World Cup hero gave away his two years’ salary to the relief fund in order to help India fight against the Coronavirus.
The country has so far witnessed more than 4000 positive cases of COVID-19 out of which 295 people have recovered while more than 100 have lost their lives. In an attempt to unite the nation, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed the citizens of the country to switch off the lights at 9 PM on Sunday and light diyas or candles or mobile torch lights.
The Indian cricketing fraternity, like many, also supported PM’s initiative and hoped that the tough times across the world end soon.
