Gautam Gambhir and Kevin Pietersen had illustrious journeys in the field of play. Both were once stalwarts of their respective teams. However, they lost their places from the national teams in the latter-half of their career. While Gambhir’s form led to his ouster from Team India, Pietersen was involved in a fallout with the England cricket team and former skipper Andrew Strauss.
For the time being, even as Pietersen is a commentator and analyst, Gambhir has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a Member of Parliament (MP). Gambhir also has been doing occasional commentary though. He is currently busy serving the ones affected in the coronavirus outbreak. In the meantime, Gautam and Kevin got chances of trolling each other on the social media.
On Wednesday, April 15, Star Sports uploaded a tweet to promote their video. The message featured the pictures of Kevin Pietersen, Gautam Gambhir and Danny Morrison. Even as Pietersen and Morrison were seen smiling, Gambhir’s reaction was devoid of smile. Reacting to the same, Pietersen wrote, “Can we get GG to smile?”

Gambhir isn’t someone to back off easily. With equal venom, blended with humour, he hit back the former Englishman. The southpaw drew the reference of the 2008 Chennai Test where Yuvraj Singh trapped the right-hander in front in the Brits’ second innings. In that match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Pietersen could only manage five runs as the Three Lions lost by six wickets.
He replied to Pietersen and wrote, “Well #legend guess u forgot!!! You have given me many reasons to smile. One of them came in December 2008 in Chennai. I think the scoreboard read Kevin Pietersen lbw b a certain #piechucker.”

It was a game where India chased down a mammoth 387 in their fourth innings. Gambhir and Virender Sehwag’s quick-fire 117-run opening stand set the tone for the huge run-chase in Chennai.
In the end, Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj put on 163 for the fifth wicket to see India over the finishing line. Sehwag became the Player of the Match for scoring 83 off 68 in the second innings with 11 fours and four sixes.
