Sir Geoffrey Boycott, the former legendary batsman of England, became a grandfather after his daughter gave birth to a baby boy in Yorkshire last month. The name of his grandson is Joshua and the former great is certainly enjoying his new role. He also shared a picture on the social media platform with his grandson sleeping in his arms.
On many occasions, he is seen praising the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. Although, Boycott feels that he was a better player than “little master” when it comes to batting technique. But, recently in an interview, he expressed a wish that might delight Indian cricket fans.
Sir Geoffrey Boycott wants his grandson to become a batsman
The former cricketer said that it is a great feeling to be a grandfather at the age of 79. He is hopeful that Joshua picks cricket as his career and wanted him to be a batsman like Sunil Gavaskar. Boycott also added that, once his grandson grows, he will take him to former Indian batsman in order to get training and feels that Gavaskar will not deny his request.
“I am very happy to be a grandfather at the age of 79. I would love to see him grow as a batsman like Sunil. Once he grows up, I will take him to Sunil for him to coach him. He is a good friend and I’m sure he’ll do it for me. I want another Gavaskar in my family,” former England cricketer said while speaking to Mid-Day.

Former cricketer turned commentator holds various records while playing for his national team. He was the first player to bat on all five days of the Test spending 629 minutes at the crease for 191 runs in 1977.
The former right-handed batter has scored 8,114 international runs with 23 tons and 51 half-centuries. He is one amongst the four players, who have got more than 150 first-class centuries. In 1998, he was convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend Margaret Moore and was given a suspended sentence.
