Former Australian fast bowling spearhead Glenn McGrath is currently in India. The legendary fast bowler and a three-time World Cup winner, McGrath recently featured in a private session hosted by HCL Technology during the World Economic Forum [WEF] where he opened up on a plethora of things.
McGrath opened up on his much-celebrated duels with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar during his playing days including the controversial LBW that Umpire Daryl Harper gave of Sachin during the 1999 Test in Adelaide. McGrath was also asked about who, in his opinion, are the top-two leading fast bowlers and batsmen in the world currently. And, according to the vile old fox, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and India’s Jasprit Bumrah- the No.1 ranked ODI bowler in the world- are two of the finest exponents of fast bowling at the moment.
“Bumrah is quite a unique bowler. He doesn’t have a long run-up like a lot of fast bowlers have. But he has got good pace, incredible control, and the right attitude,” McGrath was quoted as saying by Outlook. On Rabada the champion fast bowler said, “this South African bowler Rabada is an amazing bowler, I’m a big fan of his”.
When asked why he didn’t pick any Australian bowler, McGrath cheekily shrugged it off by saying that they all are great. “I’m leaving Australian bowlers out of this list as I feel they all are great,” he said when asked to pick the best cricketers of the current generation.
Kohli is technically very correct: McGrath
McGrath didn’t have any hesitation in picking Steve Smith and Virat Kohli as the top two batsmen. On the former, McGrath said: “Smith is a little bit unique, he is a little strange, he is not normal, but has got a great hand and eye coordination. Technically, he is not a textbook batsman, but the way he bats is amazing.”
“On the other hand, there is Kohli. He is a class player and is very technically correct. He is a little bit unusual and very aggressive on the filed especially as Indian captain, but he is a class player,” McGrath added while deciphering Virat’s style of play.
Recently, when another former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting was asked about who he thought was the most complete batsmen of the current era, Punter said it is incredibly difficult to differentiate between Kohli and Smith.
