The second edition of the Global T20 Canada has been in full swing. Christopher Henry Gayle has lit up the season with some stunning batting. The Universe Boss has been in fine form as he has scored 273 runs at an average of 91.00 and a fabulous strike-rate of 202.22. He has led the Vancouver Knights from the front.
Gayle is currently the highest run-getter of this tournament and has batted wonderfully. Moreover, he has been one of the reasons why the Vancouver Knights occupy the second spot on the points table at the moment. Gayle’s knock of 94 helped his side beat Edmonton Royals in 11th game of the tournament.
Dramatic endings sometimes irk players
However, there was one incident which left the Jamaican opener furious. Ben Cutting’s brilliant knock of 72 was instrumental in getting the Edmonton Royals to a competitive score of 165. But in the last over, there was a lot of drama which involved Cutting, Gayle and the umpires.
Ali Khan bowled the last over of the innings and started well. He took a wicket off the first ball before dishing out a dot delivery to Cutting. The third ball of the over was a high full-toss and the Aussie all-rounder who was batting on 65 dispatched it out of the ground. It was his seventh six of the innings.
However, he wasn’t pleased as it was a pretty high full-toss and the umpires didn’t deem it a no-ball. He was seen signalling to the umpires that it should’ve been a no-ball. The replays were in and it did show that the ball was above the waistline. While the umpires called for a new ball, to everyone’s surprise, they deemed it a no-ball and awarded it as free-hit. Chris Gayle wasn’t amused.
He was fuming and ran towards the two umpires. He was seen having a lengthy conversation/argument due to the late call that was made. In fact, in Vancouver’s last game, there were a couple of instances where height no-balls should’ve been called but weren’t. Gayle was batting at that time and wasn’t pleased with that. Thus, he was livid this time around with the late call.
