Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has left the cricket fans amused with his contrasting form with the willow in the just-concluded 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and ongoing three-match One Day series between India and Australia. Batting for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020, the all-rounder emerged as one of the biggest flops not hitting even a single maximum but he launched an assault on the Indian bowlers in the first two ODIs.
In the second One Day International against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground, Virat Kohli & Co. lost the toss and were sent to bowl first. The Australian batting line-up repeated the heroics of the first ODI as the opening duo of Aaron Finch and David Warner stitched a 142 run partnership in 22.5 overs.
This was followed by another Steve Smith show as he brought in a scintillating century (104 runs off 64 deliveries). His knock included 14 boundaries and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 162.5.

Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell then applied the finishing touch to the innings as they took the team’s total to 389 in 50 overs. The two batters collected a 80-run stand. While Marnus smashed 70 runs in 61 balls, Maxwell remained not out after hitting 63 runs in 29 deliveries.
The hosts again managed to exploit the visitors bowling line-up as all the main 5 Indian bowlers looked out of touch and failed to find the right rhythm. Hardik Pandya who bowled just 4 overs can be considered as the most successful bowler as he maintained an economy of 6 while naming the priced wicket of Steve Smith.
Out of all the Australian batsmen, the quickfire knock by Glenn Maxwell gained the most limelight as the all-rounder became an easy target for the trollers and memers. KXIP’s batting coach, Wasim Jaffer, who is known for his wit and humour, also took a dig at Maxwell for his contrasting forms in domestic and international fixtures. He hilariously used a meme from Sarfarosh movie and tagged the Aussie all-rounder to leave Twitterati in splits.

In the first ODI, Glenn Maxwell had scored 45 runs off 19 deliveries at a strike rate of 236.84. His IPL figures read 108 runs in 13 games at a poor strike rate of 101.88 for franchise Kings XI Punjab and his form for Australia has been sensational thus far.
