The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been going through a very tough time. The outbreak of COVID-19 has forced them to postpone the start of the Indian Premier League 2020 till April 15. With the rising cases of COVID-19, there are speculations that the tournament could be cancelled altogether.
In fact, BCCI has shut down its office for now. They have allowed ‘work from home’ to their employees. With no active cricket going on in the country, the BCCI is losing revenues. If the IPL is called off, it will be a huge loss for the board financially.
However, the officials of the board are staying back at home and spending some free time. BCCI President and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly shared a post on Instagram on this. He shared a photograph of himself just casually sitting on the lounge and having a good time. The BCCI boss also added a caption– “Amidst all the coronavirus scare.. happy to sit in the lounge at 5 pm ..free.. can’t remember when I did last.”

IPL 2020 has landed into hot waters due to Coronavirus outbreak
The situation all over the country has been in control though. The coronavirus hasn’t spread rapidly in the region. As of now, the number of positive cases are slightly over 160. Only three deaths have been recorded. But still, for safety measures, BCCI had decided to shut down their office. In addition to this, the board had also called off the India-South Africa ODIs. On top of that IPL is not gonna start until April 15 at least.
According to the reports, the opposition from the state governments in letting the matches to happen has led to the delay of the IPL. Though, there have been still discussions about the league happening and starting a bit late.
Interestingly, Ganguly had revealed that the board won’t be shying away from a shorter version of the tournament if the much-awaited IPL 2020 doesn’t start after April 15.
“If it happens, it has to be truncated because if it starts on April 15, then anyway 15 days are gone. How truncated, how many games, I can’t tell at the moment. Allow us a week and then we will figure out how things go around in the world and decide. We will reassess the situation every week. We will (coordinate) with the (authorities) and workaround,” Ganguly had said in a recent interview.
