The cricketing fraternity is engaged in a never-ending debate on which player between Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root is best across all the formats. And, Michael Clarke, the former Aussie skipper has come out and picked the best all-format player in international cricket.
Michale Clarke bid farewell to international cricket back in 2015 after winning the 50-overs World Cup. He is regarded as one of the fine skippers in Australia’s cricket history. Moreover, Clarke himself was a great player, who ended up scoring 8643 runs in red-ball cricketer and 8469 in white-ball cricket (T20Is + ODIs).
Michael Clarke picks his favourite batsman
In a recent interview, Michael Clarke was asked to pick the best batsmen across all the formats in modern-day cricket. To which, the former Aussie skipper said that in his opinion, Virat Kohli is the best player across all the formats in international cricket.
Clarke added that the records of Indian skipper are phenomenal. He has done exceedingly well in ODIs and T20Is. Moreover, Kohli has found the way of scoring runs in the longer format as well. In the end, the 39-year-old recited that one thing that is common between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar is their hunger of scoring big hundreds with consistency.
“I think (Virat Kohli is) right now the best batsman across all three formats. His one day and twenty records are phenomenal and he’s also found a way to dominate Test cricket. What Kohli and Tendulkar have in common is they love making big hundreds,” Michael Clarke said as quoted by Fox Sports.
Virat Kohli is currently the number one batsman in ODIs as far as the latest ICC rankings are concerned. There is doubt over his ability to score runs due to which he has managed to reap out success in international cricket. Moreover, he is just six centuries away from breaking the record of most centuries scored by a batsman in ODIs. The record is currently held by none other than Sachin Tendulkar, who ended up scoring 49 tons in his illustrious career.
