One of the worst feelings for any cricketer is the realization that no matter how many runs you score or the number of wickets you take, you won’t come close to even getting into the reckoning for a national team selection. Time and again we have seen cricketers invest their blood and sweat in domestic cricket day-in-and-day-out, without getting any rewards for the same.
They grind and grind and grind into the dust with an unrelenting hope that one day their hard work would materialize. No cricketer in modern-day cricket is a perfect example of everything that we have said thus far than the veteran Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam. As Pakistan batsmen continue to struggle on Australian soil in the ongoing Test series Down Under, Alam is doing what he has been doing repeatedly over the years- score runs in domestic cricket and scores truckloads of them.
The veteran middle-order batsman is 12th in the list of batsmen with the highest First-Class average for those who have racked a minimum of 12,000 runs. In 164 First-Class matches, Alam has racked up 12106 runs at an average of 56.57 with the help of 60 half-centuries and 33 three-digit scores.

Does continuous snub by the national selectors hurt Fawad Alam?
So, does it hurt Fawad Alam, everything he learns that he is not part of the Pakistan squad? The batsman opened up during his conversations with Geo News where he said, ” Naturally it hurts. But, I am not losing hope. Hope sustains the world and has sustained me as well. I am not a big star player who can go and question the PCB or the selectors, but whenever I have talked to my colleagues, I didn’t find any special reason for keeping me out,” Fawad Alam said.
It was reported in the past few days that Alam, who stitched an unbeaten 278-run-stand with Sarfaraz Ahmed, had complained to the former captain about his continued absence from the national side. However, Sarfaraz quashed all the reports and asserted that the veteran batsman had never complained to him.
“Fawad Alam has never complained to me about not being selected for the national team, he keeps on performing and the best way to answer (critics) is with bat. Fawad Alam’s best quality is that he keeps on answering with his bat,” Sarfaraz said as quoted by PakPassion.
Meanwhile, Fawad Alam took to Twitter where he thanked all his fans and well-wishers for their continued support over the years.
Thanks to every one for lovely tweets, messages & supporting always. Feeling blessed & so much motivated 😊 🙏🏼 #alhamdulillah #blessed
