India’s right-arm quick Ashok Dinda had announced his retirement from all formats of the game on February 2 after a successful stint in the domestic circuit for the past one and half a decade in the gentleman’s game. Dinda was Bengal’s second-most successful bowler after Utpal Chatterjee, with 420 first-class wickets in 116 fixtures.
The pacer also boasts of having 151 and 146 scalps in 98 List-A games and 144 T20s, respectively. Speaking about his retirement plan, Ashok Dinda revealed that he is planning to open a Sports Academy where the young kids can learn cricket and know about the various aspects of the game. Opening on the name of the academy, Dinda reckoned that he can name it as the ‘Dinda Academy of Pace Bowling’.
Ashok Dinda opens up on his retirement plans
“Even though I have quit the game, the game will stay with me forever. I will just chill as of now, I have taken a lot of pressure all these years, there’s no headache now, so I will simply relax. And there is a social media page named ‘Dinda Academy of Pace Bowling’, so I am thinking why not open an academy with the same name? It is already famous, so a plan to open ‘Dinda Academy’ is there,” Dinda told Sportskeeda.
“You can call it a sports academy, where kids can come, stay and learn cricket. All sorts of facilities will be made available to them, and I will also be available 24 hours. I haven’t come to a conclusion yet, but there are a few post-retirement plans in mind. Everybody will get to know in the next couple of months,” Dinda added.
The name is inspired by a social media meme page which is made with the intention of brutally trolling the pacer for his poor performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While playing for Rising Pune Supergiant, the bowler was smashed for plenty by Hardik Pandya during the Indian league. The meme page is a parody account run by a group of trollers, aimed at mocking the fast bowler every time the bowler got carted around the park.
