Shubman Gill will be once again hogging the limelight in the IPL this year as the cricket world eagerly waits to see the talented batsman’s performance. Earlier this year, the highly-rated batsman enhanced his reputation by doing well in the Test series in Australia while opening the innings. Gill will now be looking to do well in the IPL as he looks to become a regular member of India’s limited-overs teams.
The Kolkata Knight Riders had his most prolific IPL season so far last year when he scored 440 runs in 14 games. It was the first time Gill managed to score more than 300 runs in an IPL. In the previous two seasons, he had scored 296 and 203 runs. The right-handed batsman’s performance, however, was not enough to take his team into the playoffs.
The two-time IPL winners managed to win 7 of their 14 league games and finished the league stage in the fifth position, tied on 14 points with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. But while RCB and SRH made it to the playoffs, the Eoin Morgan-led side missed out due to their poor net run-rate.
Shubman Gill’s gives a fitting reply to troll
KKR would be hoping to put up a better show this year and they will rely a lot on Shubman Gill for the same. Last year, the youngster had faced criticism from several quarters for his strike rate while opening the innings. While he managed to score more than 400 runs, his strike rate was only 117.96. And while only time will tell how Gill performs this year, he has already hit a big six although not on the cricket field.
It all happened when Gill posted his picture on his Instagram profile. And while most of the fans were praising him and wishing him luck for IPL 2021, one user tried to taunt him by saying: “What a tuk-tuk.”
The user was trolling Gill for his poor strike rate in last year’s IPL. Gill took cognizance of the tweet and decided to give the troll a taste of his own medicine as he shut him up by writing: “I am right where I want to be Mr. NOBODY.”
