Aaron Finch has been one of the best cricketers of the Australian team in shorter formats of the game in the current modern era. He has been a prolific batsman for Australia since making his debut back in 2011 in a T20 international against England. Finch also holds the record of the second-highest individual score in a T20 international.
Finch was made the permanent captain of Australia after the infamous ball-tampering incident happened back in 2018 that rocked the Australian cricket. The Aussie rose up his sleeves for the opportunity and lead the team from the front. He also led the Australian side to the semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2019.
I’m very excited about playing under Virat Kohli: Aaron Finch
Finch, in an interview, shared his thoughts on joining RCB. “I can’t wait to join up with RCB. To get the opportunity to play for a franchise that has some of the greatest players in the world is going to be fun. It would have been amazing to play in front of the home crowd at Chinnaswamy but representing the franchise in UAE will still mean a huge amount to me,” Finch said as quoted by Indian Express.
The Aussie also shared his view on playing under Virat Kohli this IPL season.”It will be my first time playing under Virat’s leadership but something I’m very excited about. Having played against him for several years now in international cricket and IPL I know how driven and competitive he is, that something I’m looking forward to seeing up close,” added the Aussie opener.
Finch also put forth his view on playing the longer format of the game saying he is eager to get a chance to play Test cricket again. “I would love to get an opportunity to play Test cricket again, but realistically I think it will be very tough to force my way back into the team. Not having the opportunity to play as much first-class cricket as I would like to put the required runs on the board makes it a bit harder,” he viewed.
The Australian opener also put his thoughts on who according to him is the best batsman in the world. “As for the best batsman in the world, you could throw a blanket over a handful of players over 3 formats. The consistency of Steve Smith and Virat Kohli in Test cricket both home and away over a long period probably makes them stand out from the rest,” Finch said.
The explosive opener heaped praise on Australian coach Justin Langer by commenting that he has been for him in every aspect of his game.
“Justin has been great, not just for my batting but also for my leadership and life. Like all coach/player relationships we are always talking about small things that we can look at to improve my game. When you are constantly going from series to series there isn’t always a lot of time to make big technical changes, a lot of the time it’s just a mental shift that can help you more than anything,” he added.
