Chris Morris took the high road by not indulging too much in his South African teammate Dale Steyn’s comments regarding the IPL. The legendary pacer had opined a month back that he feels that T20 leagues like the Lanka Premier League or Pakistan Super League are a bit more rewarding in comparison to the IPL.
Steyn has not had successful stints in the IPL off late. He played only three matches in the 2020 season for Royal Challengers Bangalore and was dropped from the side mid-season. Morris, on the other hand, who was part of the same franchise had some success. In fact, the fast-bowling all-rounder has been a hot-pick in the auction for two seasons now.
Morris was bought by RCB for the 2020 season for INR 10 crores, while this year, his services were secured by Rajasthan Royals for a whopping INR 16.25 crore. With this bid, he also became the highest ever paid cricketer in an IPL auction. The 33-year-old said that Steyn has his own opinions and he won’t be delving into it too much.
Whatever he feels that’s what he feels, and I’m happy to have a conversation with him about it: Chris Morris
“No, I don’t feel the same (on Steyn’s opinion on IPL). Dale’s a free spirit, Dale’s one of the legends of the game, Dale’s one of my favourite people in the world. Dale’s got his opinions, he will be outspoken about his opinions. I’m not going to delve into it too much and it was just the case of Dale feeling at that time what Dale was feeling – what he was feeling emotionally or physically or mentally,” Morris said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
Morris further went on to say that he would want to have a chat with Steyn regarding the same. He also noted that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. “Whatever he feels that’s what he feels, and I’m happy to have a conversation with him about it. But, we’re all different animals, we’re all different people and we have different opinions and that’s what makes the world go around,” Morris added.
Earlier after making the controversial statement, Steyn also came out and publicly apologised if his words had hurt Indian fans. He also mentioned that his intention was never to disrespect any league.
