Hanuma Vihari, the Indian cricketer has become a regular face in Team India‘s Test squad. But, he was not picked in the recently held IPL 2020 auction for the upcoming season. Now, he has opened up saying that he is not demoralized after getting snubbed and has shifted his focus on the important upcoming tour of New Zealand.
The 26-year-old from Andhra Pradesh made his debut for Team India in the longer format in 2018 against England. He impressed everyone with his determined knocks in his short career and showed his caliber to become one of the most promising batsmen in the nation in the longer format. So, far he has played 7 Tests in which he has mustered 466 runs with one ton and three-half centuries at an average of 42.36. However, he is still due to make his first appearance in white-ball cricket for Team India.
Hanuma Vihrai focussing on New Zealand tour
Hanuma Vihari said that getting a contract in IPL is not in his control and he just doesn’t want to make a comment over the same. He added the fact that he has been playing well for his state team in the white-ball cricket. And, he is just focussing to perform well for Team India. The 26-year-old also recited that he is excited to lead India A in New Zealand for two games followed by a Test series starting on February 21.
“It’s not in my control and I don’t really want to comment on it. My job is to play well and win matches. I have done well for the state team in white-ball cricket. So whenever I get an opportunity, I will do well for the India team as well,” said Vihari as quoted by Scroll.in.
“Now, I am really looking forward to the New Zealand trip. I have two India A games followed by the Test series (in February-March). That will be an important series for us as we won’t have a Test series for a long time until we go to Australia. So it will be a good series and I’m really looking forward to leading India A.”
Hanuma Vihari is quite aware of the conditions in New Zealand because last year he had played two first-class games under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy. Moreover, he got two half-centuries in the opening game that was played in Mount Maunganui. He is looking forward to using the opportunity to the fullest and do well for his side.
