Former veteran Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is the first player to have received the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Last year in the month of June, Yuvraj announced his retirement from all the formats of the game including the domestic cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL) after which BCCI issued him a NOC for participating in the overseas leagues.
Following his retirement, the swashbuckling batsman became the first Indian to participate in the Global T20 Canada league. After the Canadian league, the all-rounder flew to Abu Dhabi where he represented Maratha Arabians in the T10 league.
Yuvraj Singh eager to be back on the field
Yuvraj was expected to participate in more international tournaments this year but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has confined the cricketer to his home. Speaking to the Hindustan Times, the former Indian cricketer revealed his future plans.
“I want to play in the international leagues; however, I don’t know when these leagues will resume, considering the pandemic,” Yuvraj said.
A career that spanned over 304 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and 40 Tests, Yuvraj established himself as a player who could pretty much win matches for his side either through his electric fielding, deceiving bowling or fierce batting. All the tournaments and series across the world were put on hold since March 2020. However, the cricket boards are now trying to bring the game back to life by scheduling the matches in a biosecure bubble.
The West Indies board is the first one to go ahead with its domestic cricket. The 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) would Kickstart on August 18. However, Yuvraj hadn’t registered himself for the CPL 2020 draft. As a result, he would not feature in the Caribbean league.
Following Cricket West Indies, BCCI will be the second board to resume its domestic league. The Indian board has decided to host the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from September 19 to November 8 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Cricket Australia will also organize its Big Bash League season from December 3 while England’s domestic season will begin from August 1.
