As the world is eagerly waiting for the resumption of cricketing action, Pakistan have agreed ‘in principle’ to tour England for three-match Test series and as many T20 Internationals from July 30. After the sporting scenario was disrupted due to COVID-19 pandemic, the series will certainly serve as a breath of fresh air for all cricket fanatics.
Ahead of the England tour, Pakistan’s Imad Wasim has expressed that he along with his entire team is waiting to get back on the field. Imad, who has amassed 952 runs in 53 ODIs he has played so far for Pakistan, is hoping to get back on the field and resume his daily routine.
“I am very eager to be back on the cricket field. It has been a long time, not only for us but for all sportspersons. They all want to play their sport and want to get back on the field,” the Dawn quoted Imad as saying.
“Obviously, for cricket and cricketers it is a very important tour, you are getting back to your life and routine which is very important. The thing is, every cricketer wants to play, whether closed doors or with crowds,” he added.
‘We want to regain our top position in T20s’: Imad Wasim
Apart from improving his bowler and all-rounder ranking, Imad is hopeful that Pakistan will clinch the T20I series to regain the top spot in T20I rankings. Pakistan are currently poised fourth in the ICC T20I rankings, 18 points behind the top-ranked Australian side.
“We want to regain our top position in T20s. I want to see Pakistan among the top three ranked sides in all formats. My personal goal is to perform well and improve my ranking as a bowler and as an all-rounder. But winning the series is more important because England is one of the world’s best sides,” he said.
The England-Pakistan series will be a whole different experience altogether for fans as well as players. Considering the current situation across the globe, the series will be played in a biosecure environment. Furthermore, the world will witness a few new rules as the use of saliva has been prohibited according to the new post-coronavirus guidelines issued by the ICC.
