Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian cricketer is reckoned as one of the best all-rounders ever produced by India in its cricketing history. He holds the record for hitting six sixes in an over in a T20 World Cup. He touched that amazing feat in 2007 against England in the over of Stuart Broad. Its been 13 long years, and now the 38-year-old revealed what provoked him to set the stage on fire in Kingsmead.
In 2007, the maiden edition of the T20 World Cup was hosted by South Africa. During the mega-event, majority of the fans would have never thought of a player smacking six sixes in an over. However, on September 19, in the 19th over of the match, the former Indian all-rounder scored six sixes off England pacer Stuart Broad in his one over. Moreover, he became the only player to touch that amazing feat in the T20 World Cup. Surprisingly till date, no player has managed to do so in the last 13 years.
Yuvraj Singh reveals what provoked him to smack six sixes
In a recent live session with Aaj Tak’s Vikrant Gupta, Yuvraj Singh revealed that he had an argument with all-rounder, Andrew Flintoff just ahead of Broad’s over that pumped him up. The 38-year-old said that he smacked two boundaries on a couple of good deliveries. As per him, when he was walking towards the non-striker’s end after the over, at that time Flintoff said something that was below the belt. In addition, he told that some of his strokes that he played were just very poor. Also, the former all-rounder said something that is not appropriate to speak in front of the public according to Yuvraj.
“I had hit Flintoff for two boundaries on good deliveries and he did not like it. And after that over when I was walking to the other end. I can’t repeat exactly what he said. He told me that those were some ridiculous shots. So I asked him what did he say and had a confrontation,” Yuvraj Singh told in a live Instagram session.
What happened next?
Flintoff: I will cut your throat off.
Yuvraj: You see this bat in my hand. Do you know where I am gonna hit you with this bat?.
He recited that later on, the umpire had to come and interrupt between the two before something bad would have happened on the field. According to him, at that very moment, he had decided to send every ball for a six.
“So the umpire interrupted us but I was very pumped after that argument and I had decided that I have to send every ball out of the park now. Luckily it was my day,” he added.
