The 21st match of the 2020 ICC Under-19s World Cup in Group A will be played between Sri Lanka Under-19s and Japan Under-19s at the North-West University No1 Ground in Potchefstroom.
The match starts at 10:00 AM local time (1:30 PM IST) (8:00 AM GMT)
Sri Lanka Under-19s had a forgettable U19 CWC 2020 campaign as they have been knocked out in the group stage itself. They lost to India in their first match by a big margin while against New Zealand, they lost on the penultimate ball. Sri Lanka is currently placed below Japan in Group A as the latter had a point through washout. Talking about the performances, the Japan Under-19s are a long way before they start giving fight for the opponents. The ongoing tournament is Japan’s maiden appearance at the U19 CWC.
The North-West University in Potchefstroom could be on the receiving end of the scattered thunderstorms on Saturday.
Potchefstroom’s North-West University has dished out interesting pitches. New Zealand were going towards a big total against Japan in a washed-out game while Pakistan pacers rattled through Scotland in the next match. Afghanistan batted well against UAE in the previous match played here before their spinners ran through after UAE’s openers lasted 17 overs. We can expect a spin paradise if a used track of this tournament is provided for the Saturday’s match.
Average first innings score: 170 (Completed U19 Matches in 2020)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 1, Lost – 1

Sri Lanka Under-19s made two changes to the XI that lost to India which of those includes excluding Amshi de Silva who took a 5-wicket haul on Caribbean tour. With the game against Japan not providing any context, the Lankans could be seen experimenting with the line-up. On the other hand, Japan Under-19s might not make any changes to their bowling attack which has been untested in the main tournament. However, their batting could get a new shape after consistent failures.
Sri Lanka Under-19s are expected to register their first win of the tournament.
