The inaugural season of the Euro T20 Slam is all set to get underway on August 30 with six teams fighting it out for the glory. But the questions are being raised about the inception of more and more T20 leagues now within in the International Cricket Council (ICC). Moreover, the ICC has been caught off-guard with the technical committee chairman Anil Kumble’s association with the T20 league.
The former India player and coach has been signed up as the advisor of the Euro T20 Slam and the governing body is completely unaware about the developments. The tournament is being conducted by Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland and Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond [Netherlands] together.
“He [Kumble] may have followed the necessary protocols for all you know. But the thing is, the events monitoring group could’ve certainly benefitted from the intelligence. They didn’t have an idea,” the source was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
BCCI also unaware
Interestingly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also clueless about Anil Kumble’s participation as the advisor with the Euro T20 Slam. Rather, the officials have claimed to have no idea about the tournament itself, leave aside Kumble’s association with it.
The Euro T20 Slam was unveiled on Friday last week and Anil Kumble, the board member of their advisory committee hoped that the BCCI allows more Indian cricketers to participate in the T20 leagues other than IPL in the near future. “It will be good to see Indian cricketers participating in the various [T20] leagues in the future and hopefully BCCI will give NOC to more players,” he said.
Yuvraj Singh and Manpreet Gony are the two cricketers who will participate in the upcoming Global T20 Canada which is set to commence on July 25.
