In a dramatic final at the Lord’s, the New Zealand team settled down with the runners up tag in what was a tournament of a rollercoaster ride for them. The Kiwis began the competition with five wins in as many matches they played. However, three straight defeats to finish the league stage put their semi-final berth in trouble but Net Run Rate saved them. They stunned India in the semi-final with disciplined bowling performance when not many gave them the chase to beat the two-time cricket World Cup champions.

3 – New Zealand lost their previous three matches in this tournament; the first occasion of them losing three straight matches in a single World Cup edition. The Kiwis did lose three cricket World Cup matches in a row once but those three defeats were spread across two editions (last two games in 1979 and 1st game in 1983).

39 – Trent Boult has picked up 39 wickets from 19 World Cup matches; the most by any player for New Zealand in World Cup. Boult went past Jacob Oram and Daniel Vettori who shared the top spot before Boult.
578 – The 578 runs aggregated by Kane Williamson in this tournament are the most for New Zealand player of World Cup. The previous most were 547 runs by Martin Guptill in the 2015 edition.
