The Pakistan Cricket team is currently hosting the first part of the Bangladesh tour with the three-match Twenty20 International series underway at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Pakistan Cricket Board [PCB] finally reached a truce with their Bangladeshi counterparts after a series of deadlocks had threatened their aspirations of continuing with the trend of hosting International sides on home soil.
Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB], who had earlier made it clear that they have got only a week’s clearance to come and play in Pakistan, finally agreed to tour the country in three different parts but the reports had emerged after the development that PCB may have bartered their rights of hosting the Asia Cup T20, which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan later this year, for the ongoing series against the Bangla Tigers.
But, Wasim Khan- the Chief Executive officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board- refuted such reports on Saturday when he said “PCB have not made any deal with Bangladesh to play this series in Pakistan and in return we give them hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2020”
“It is not the prerogative of the PCB or the ICC to change the host as it was the decision of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC),” Wasim was quoted as saying by The Dawn.
BCCI not willing to send Indian players to Pakistan for Asia Cup
Pakistan is scheduled to host the next edition of the Asia Cup which will take place in a T20 format before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. But, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India refusing to budge on its stand of not playing on Pakistan soil, speculations have been rife as to whether the tournament will take place in the country or not.
However, Wasim Khan isn’t backing away either. The CEO of Pakistan Cricket Board declared that if India does not come to Pakistan to participate in the Asia Cup then they will not send their team to next year’s ICC T20 World Cup, which is set to be held in India.
“We are currently considering two venues to host the Asia Cup. If India doesn’t come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, we would also refuse participation in the 2021 T20 World Cup there,” added Khan.
