On Thursday, August 6, Honourable Indian Prime Minister laid the foundation of the temple and the area was decorated with yellow and saffron. A number of other renowned personalities also attended the religious ceremony.
The 38-year-old Kaneria was delighted called it a “Historical Day” and he also dropped a series of tweets. He is someone, who prefers to talk about his religious beliefs without much of hesitation. The Karachi-born also wishes to come to India and see the temple. Moreover, he was also an ardent follower of the TV series Ramayana, which shaped the childhood of many.
I believe in Lord Ram: Danish Kaneria
“Being a religious person, I am a devoted Hindu and I always try to follow the path shown by Lord Ram. Since childhood, we have seen Ramayana and I worship Lord Ram and his ideals of life. The tweet that I did about Bhoomi Poojan of Ram Mandir was not done to hurt or tease anyone.
“I believe in Lord Ram and that’s why I tweeted about it. If almighty Lord Ram desires, I will definitely come to India to see the temple,” Kaneria was quoted as saying in India TV.
Kaneria also expressed pride in donning the Pakistan jersey, being a Hindu. From November 2000 to July 2010, the leg-spinner plied his trade in 61 ODIs and 18 T20Is, picking up 261 and 15 wickets respectively.
“Playing for the Pakistan cricket team has been a matter of pride for me. Playing for my country and being a Hindu cricketer, representing the Pakistan team and winning matches for my team is like an achievement for me and it is a matter of pride and honour for me,” he added.
However, the match-fixing scandal while playing county cricket in England turned his career upside down. Her was banned for life by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Kaneria last played international cricket in a Test match against the Brits at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham back in 2010.
