Shreyas Iyer has vowed to return to action in no time after undergoing a successful shoulder injury. Iyer was recently ruled out of the entire IPL after suffering the injury during the first ODI against England last month. It was the third time since IPL 2020 that Iyer had hurt the left shoulder. He had also hurt the same shoulder during the ODI series in Australia in November.
Iyer suffered the injury while fielding. Posted at extra cover, he fell awkwardly on his left shoulder while successfully intercepting a drive from Johnny Bairstow in the eighth over of the England innings. He looked in pain straight away as he was rolled on the turf while holding his left shoulder. He received the medical attention immediately before walking off the field for a scan which revealed he had “subluxation” (partially dislocated) in his shoulder.
Iyer is now all set for his rehabilitation programme after going under the knife. The India star himself took to Instagram to give an update on his surgery to the fans. Posting a picture from the hospital bed, Iyer said that he would be back in no time. The right-handed batsman also thanked his fans for the wishes, writing:
“Surgery was a success and with lion-hearted determination, I’ll be back in no time. Thank you for your wishes.

Rishabh Pant to lead Delhi Capitals:
With Shreyas Iyer out of IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals have named Rishabh Pant as their captain for the season. Iyer recently spoke about his replacement and said that Pant was the best man to replace him as the captain. He also wished him for his captaincy debut while saying that he would miss his teammate tremendously.
“When I sustained the shoulder injury, and the Delhi Capitals needed a leader for this edition of the IPL, I had no doubt that Rishabh Pant would be the best man for the job. He has all my good wishes to make this an amazing season with our absolutely incredible team. I’m going to miss the team tremendously and will be cheering for them throughout,” Iyer said.
IPL 2021 is scheduled to start on Friday (April 9). Defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament-opener in Chennai. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, will be in action on the next day when they lock horns against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai.
