India have been dominant at home for the last few years, remaining unbeaten on 12 home Test series on the trot. Of late, Virat Kohli and Co thumped South Africa and Bangladesh, and are on top of the table in the ICC World Test Championship, racking up 360 points. Even in ODIs and T20Is, the Men in Blue have been dominant, though they have lost a few games in between.
India lately won the Day-Night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Their next assignment is the home ODIs and T20Is versus the West Indies, starting December 6. Amidst his team’s domination, Kohli feels that India is among the top two teams across formats. As per Virat self-belief and understanding have helped the side go through the transition phase.
Insecurity about their own game has vanished, says Virat Kohli
“If you look at teams across formats now, I would say we’re in the top-two teams in the world. And we’re very proud of that because we started off with a young bunch and transition is never easy but the guys have slowly understood the importance of belief and understanding their role in taking Indian cricket forward,” Kohli was quoted as saying in India Today.
“So, insecurity about their own game has vanished. If you see we enjoy each other’s success and company and everyone is just wanting to help one way or the other for the betterment of Indian cricket team and in return the betterment of Indian cricket as a whole,” he stated.
Under Kohli’s leadership, India are yet to win an ICC title. Virat was a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad and then the 2013 Champions Trophy squad. However, back then MS Dhoni was the skipper. Virat said that winning an ICC Trophy was ‘like an obsession’, but Kohli wishes to focus more on the process than the result.
“If you ask me, honestly I didn’t ever think I would be part of the winning World Cup team in my first World Cup or two years down the line we will win the Champions Trophy as well. I never thought of these things but it happened. So, it was meant to happen for us,” he added.
