Amidst the pollution concern, India and Bangladesh are all set to lock horns at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi on Sunday in the first of the three-match T20I series. The hosts have rested their regular skipper Virat Kohli for this series with Rohit Sharma taking over the leadership duties. Both the teams started training on Friday but India camp looked worried as their captain walked off from the nets after being hit on the leg.
Though more details are still awaited on the matter, Sharma didn’t return to the nets. However, while he was in the middle, the Indian opener looked in good touch. He also stepped out on a couple of occasions to Shardul Thakur while also played his front foot cover drives to perfection.
According to Hindustan Times, Rohit Sharma was hit on his leg when he was batting against India’s throwdown specialist Nuwan Seneviratne. Soon after being struck with the ball, Rohit stormed off the practice area and immediately took his gloves off. In the meantime, India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour and Seneviratne tried to calm him down.
The injury didn’t seem too serious but Rohit Sharma not returning to bat is cause for concern for the Men in Blue ahead of the series opener. With Kohli not playing, it is important for him to play and lead from the front.
Rohit Sharma set to achieve a special milestone
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is set to become the first male Indian cricketer to play 100 T20 Internationals for his country during the series. He has currently played 98 matches in the format and has amassed 2443 runs at an average of 32.1 and the strike-rate of 136.6. He also has four centuries to his name in the shortest format of the game at the highest level.
India will just be hoping that the current injury is not too serious and after taking a small break, he returns to the practice. The hosts will also be keen to keep their winning record against Bangladesh intact. The visitors have never beaten India in the shortest format in eight attempts.
