India and England are up against each other in the ongoing highly-anticipated pink-ball Test at Motera Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. The toss went in the favour of visiting skipper Joe Root and he decided to post the total on the board first. The Indian bowlers scripted a memorable show at the world’s largest cricket stadium as they were successful in stopping the opposition batsmen at a below-par score of 112.
The second innings saw Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill opening the innings for India. There was a bit of drama too in the initial phase of India’s innings as Shubman Gill was involved in a controversial decision. The fourth delivery of the second over saw Stuart Broad bowling a delivery to Gill and the latter edging it towards all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was standing at second slip.
Though Stokes was successful in taking the hold of the ball, he couldn’t carry it very well and it appeared that the ball touched the ground after slipping from his fingers. However, Stokes was ecstatic after taking the catch and made a strong appeal. The on-field umpire was somewhat convinced with the England all-rounder but he decided to refer the decision to the third umpire C Shamshuddin after giving the soft-signal as out.
Ben Stokes claps in disbelief after seeing the decision of third-umpire
After seeing the review, the third umpire overturned the decision as it appeared that the ball was touching the ground a little. However, the third umpire gave his decision after seeing through just one angle and one replay. This angered the England players as they argued that Stokes had his fingers under the ball and the umpire should have checked through different angles too.
The infuriated England cricketers including the likes of James Anderson, Joe Root and Stuart Broad immediately went to the on-field Anil Chaudhary to show their disagreement with the decision of the third umpire. Stokes, on the other hand, was seen laughing and clapping in disbelief.
These angry reactions by the England players drew the attention of a lot of fans on Twitter as they came up with their own opinions and views regarding the decision.
