India is currently hosting South Africa for a three-match T20I series and as many Tests. On Wednesday, the 2nd match of the series was played in Mohali. The duo Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar caught everyone’s eyes with their phenomenal performances which created pressure on the visitors and they were unsuccessful in gaining the momentum towards the 2nd half of the innings.
During the 2nd T20I, South Africa was heading towards a big total at one moment when they were at 88 runs in 11 overs, but the bowling figures of Deepak Chahar 2/22 and Sundar gave away only 19 runs in 3 overs. Their show with the ball has immensely impressed the former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman who has lavishly praised them.
Laxman analyses both the players
He was happy with both the bowlers’ approach and the line they bowled against South Africa. While Chahar swung the ball early on and then brought his variations into play in the death, Sundar kept things tight in his three overs but couldn’t take a wicket.
“Chahar was impeccable with his lengths with both old ball and new and used his variations excellently during his second spell, most notably the knuckleball which got rid of Bavuma. Sundar is not a big turner of the ball but he troubled the batsmen with the angles he created through the use of the crease, and with his height.” Laxman wrote in his column of Times of India on Friday.
The 44-year-old was also impressed by the batting performance of the skippers of both the teams as they went past the 50-run mark. “Quinton de Kock was his natural aggressive self despite the responsibility of the captaincy but, the standout batsman was Virat Kohli. once again, he saw through a chase effortlessly. His use of the feet against the quick bowlers was exemplary, as was his balance. He played some stunning off-side strokes,” VVS Laxman added.
India won the 2nd T20I match by seven wickets and Virat Kohli was awarded the Man of the Match for scoring an unbeaten 72 while chasing 150.
