Kieron Pollard, the West Indian skipper has given out his opinion on all-rounder Roston Chase, who has emerged as one of the best all-rounders for his side since the last year. He is a young and exciting player to watch and on subcontinent pitches and becomes more dangerous because of his ability to turn the ball on spin-friendly wickets.
Roston Chase has donned West Indies jersey in 22 ODIs in which he has grabbed 11 wickets and has mustered 396 runs with a half-century. He is a decent player when it comes to batting and will play an important role in three-match ODI series starting from December 15.
Kieron Pollard feels fortunate to have an exciting all-rounder in the team
Ahead of the 1st ODI, Pollard said that Chase is an exciting all-rounder, who provides a balance to the Caribbean side. He has scored a Test hundred and can play multiple roles at any time in the match. The 27-year-old provides the national side to play with an extra bowler and that makes him a valuable addition. The West Indian captain just wants to utilize Chase’s talent to the fullest.
He also opened up on the comeback of Dwayne Bravo in international cricket. Pollard said that it is good to watch a player like him available for team selection.
“I think he brings a good balance to our team. He is a Test batsman as he has the Test hundred. I think he is a great asset for us. He can play any role and given that he can bowl as well. I think it gives an opportunity to play an extra bowler, all-rounder or a batter. He has been very valuable to us. We saw his talent and trying to exploit what he can give for himself. He is going to be an integral part for us going forward.”
“I am happy as a captain to know we have the player of that calibre available for selection. Players in the dressing room are happy as well. As we speak right now, we are more focus on the job at hand which is that 50-over game we have to play tomorrow,” Kieron Pollard said in the pre-match conference of 1st ODI.
So far this year, West Indies had a roller-coaster ride in the 50-over format. They failed to qualify for the semi-finals in the 2019 World Cup and just after that, they faced a home series defeat against India by 2-0. However, they marked a strong comeback in the bilateral series played against Afghanistan and won it by 3-0.
