Indian left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha hasn’t had much to rejoice in his cricketing career of late. But he has had every reason to cheer as far as his personal life is concerned. It’s celebration time for the tweaker as he and his wife Karabee were blessed with a baby boy on Saturday, September 7.
The baby was born at a corporate hospital in Jubilee Hills. Even as the happy and excited parents were at the hospital, Maheshwar Ojha, Pragyan’s father, took some time out to share his glee and ecstasy of becoming a proud grandfather. He expressed his joy in an interview with Hyderabad Times.
“I can’t find the words to express my happiness, we are all overjoyed. The delivery took place on Saturday, both the baby and Karabee are doing well. We have been flooded with calls and congratulatory messaged from close friends and family members. Doctors told us that they will be discharged today. We can’t wait to take our bundle of joy home,” Ojha was quoted as saying.
Pragyan Ojha last played in November
Pragyan made his international debut way back in 2008 versus Bangladesh in the Asia Cup at the National Stadium in Karachi. In the very next year, the southpaw forayed into Test and T20I cricket as well. Back then, he was deemed as one of the brightest prospects in Indian cricket. However, he couldn’t quite show enough consistency and therefore was in and out of the national side.
He last played international cricket against the West Indies back in 2013 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Interestingly, it was also the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s final appearance for the Indian team. Moreover, it was a series when Rohit Sharma made his debut in Test cricket. In 24 Tests, 18 ODIs and six T20Is, the 33-year-old Ojha picked up 113, 21 and 10 wickets respectively.
He was a stalwart for Hyderabad in the Indian domestic circuit, but he shifted his base to Bihar last season. In that season, he played only three List A matches and one at the first-class level. In white-clothing cricket, Ojha has 424 wickets in 108 matches with as many as 23 five-wicket hauls. In limited-overs cricket, Ojha has 279 wickets.
