Tamil Nadu Premier League recently concluded its 4th successive season in August 2019, but it looks like a lot is still left after its conclusion. The league is severely being hit by the charges of fixing and betting. This time all the team owners and management members have been bought under scanner after the claims made by some players and the demise of one of the team owners has given some air to the illegal claims.
Recently, in a police investigation, it has been found by the police that the suicide of one of the team owners, VB Chandrasekhar’s suicide has something to do with the betting during the TNPL 2019. A police source was found accepting the fact that they stumbled upon the information about the possible betting racquets during the investigation with close friends of VB and cricketers of the state.
“Though those were not directly related to the suicide case, we recorded some of the important facts and passed on to our colleagues in Mumbai and Delhi,” a senior police officer said as quoted by TOI.
BCCI ACU Chief and TNPL governing council react on the malpractices
The BCCI ACU, yesterday confirmed that a few TNPL players were approached for match-fixing, “During the TNPL, some players were being approached for fixing but they reported the Anti Corruption Unit at that very moment, which led to an immediate inquiry and ACU is searching out the people who approached the players for such illegal activity,” said ACU chief Ajit Singh.
The TNPL governing council chairman, PS Raman has confirmed that a complaint against alleged malpractices in the league was brought to the notice during the event, which forced them to form a three-member committee to look into this issue but they are not open to disclose the details until the findings of the report are submitted.
Although the joint secretary of TNCA, RI Palani has quashed all alleged match-fixing claims, saying they weren’t made aware of any such incident, However, now that the ACU is saying that the players have been approached, TNCA will certainly want to see those reports.
