A thrilling game, a fantastic chase and a Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Mumbai Indians Super Over, this game at Dubai had everything in it. IPL 2020 has had only 10 games till now and we have already seen 2 Super Overs. RCB vs MI was one of the most exciting matches and the Virat Kohli-led side won it on the last ball of the Super Over. MI played their heart out and they scored 79 runs of their last four overs during the chase but it was apparently RCB’s day only.
Ishan Kishan was the protagonist for MI but he was dismissed on the penultimate delivery at 99. Royal Challengers scored a blistering 201 runs in their quota of 20 overs, MI was almost out of the game when their top 3 departed and the run flow was almost choked but Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan’s heroics made sure that they come back into the game. Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper is known as one of the most tactful captains in the tournament but MI made some blunders this time which cost them the thrilling encounter.
Here are 3 mistakes committed by MI in RCB vs MI, Match 10:-
1. Not sending Ishan Kishan in the Super Over
Ishan Kishan was the centrepiece of their run-chase. He was their highest scorer and the southpaw was hitting the ball exceptionally. When the game went till Super Over, he was expected to come out and smash some boundaries as he was the man in form, but Ishan Kishan didn’t come out as he was drained out and that cost MI an important match as they were able to score only 7 runs in the Super Over.
2. MI played extremely slow in the beginning
While chasing a total of 201, momentum is quite an important factor. With more than 10 runs required per over, MI should have tried to utilise the powerplay overs, but they didn’t start on the right note. They lost early wickets and couldn’t accelerate in the initial overs. This made sure that they needed a huge amount of runs in the last 5 overs. Though they were able to tie the game but if they would have batted faster in the beginning, they could have chased down the mammoth total.
3. Expensive death bowling
After Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal started the RCB innings at a brisk rate, RCB was all set for a big total. However, MI pulled back the strings a bit and RCB were restricted during the middle overs due to excellent line and length. With AB de Villiers‘ presence in the death overs, MI needed to bowl a tight lines but they bowled too many loose deliveries. De Villiers and Shivam Dube exploited the last few overs with their ruthless batting and RCB reached a massive total of 201.
